🔇 Say It Without Saying It! Non-Verbal Cues That Instantly Improve Your Class Communication

Ever feel like you’re constantly repeating yourself? “Spread out! Quiet down! Eyes up!”—and yet, your dancers still aren’t listening?

Here’s the secret:

You don’t always need words to lead the room. 🤫

Non-verbal communication is a game-changer for keeping dancers engaged, focused, and working together like a well-oiled machine.

Some gestures I’ve learned to use:

✅ The Hand Raise: When I need instant silence, I simply raise my hand. No need to compete with tap shoes or blasting music. Dancers quickly catch on and signal others to stop tapping & yapping.

✅ The "Come Closer" Cue: Instead of yelling across the room (because let’s be real, that’s exhausting), I motion with my hands to bring dancers in when I need to explain something. It saves my voice and keeps their attention.

✅ The Power of Eye Contact: A simple look can communicate "I see you slacking," "Yes! Nailed it!" or “You’re being too loud” without stopping class.

✅ Directional Gestures: Pointing down signals "lower," a lifted hand means "higher," and an open palm tells dancers to spread out… Fewer words, more action!

Sometimes your body speaks before your mouth does—make sure it’s saying what you want it to.
